It doesn’t happen often, but you’ll remember it when it does.
This is one of my favorite parts of soccer. That time your team got shelled & didn’t lose.
It happens at almost every level, but for S’s and G’s, I pulled a few examples from the past few weeks of Major League Soccer’s regular season.
The moral of the story? The best team does not always win.
How did we not lose?
Philadelphia Union 1 – 2 Orlando City SC
March 25th – Orlando got outshot 26-12 on the road and Philadelphia suffered its first home loss since 2021.
Minnesota 1-1 Vancouver
March 25th – Minnesota got peppered at home to the tune of 23 shots to 8. Minnesota scored in the 40th minute and held the lead all the way up until the 8th minute of injury time in the 90th minute.

Orlando 1 – 2 Charlotte FC
March 18th – Charlotte traveled to Orlando and proceeded to get outshot 19-8 and walked away with all three points.
Sporting KC 0 – 0 LA Galaxy
March 11th – Sporting KC’s home crowd witnessed their squad get pinned in for 90 minutes and get outshot 30-8 by LAG and come away with a tie.
Atlanta United 1-1 Toronto fc
March 4th – Toronto FC managed to come away with a tie at Atlanta after surrendering 16 shots to their 4.
My most memorable result
My college played UMBC at the Naval Academy in Annapolis and was outshot 32-3 and won 3-2. It was the sweetest bus ride home to Western New York.
