What’s good in MLS?

MLS Kicks off its 28th season this weekend. Peep what's going on around the league prior to kick offs.

Let’s break down quickly what’s good in MLS. The season kicks off this weekend across the nation.

  • MLS enters its 28th season.
  • St. Louis City SC joins the league as the 29th team and makes its debut vs Austin FC Saturday.
  • LAFC vs LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl has been postponed due to inclement weather. Re-schedule TBD.
  • Notable players in a new kit this year include: 2018 MVP Josef Martinez now in Miami, US International Aaron Long moving from NY Red Bull to LAFC, and US International Sean Johnson formerly of NYCFC going north of the border to Toronto FC.
  • Notable coaches bouncing around include: Wilfried Nancy going from Montreal to Columbus, former long time manager of DC United Ben Olson digging his spurs into Houston, and former FCD coach Luchi Gonzalez moving to San Jose.
  • Lionel Messi is still considering making a move to Inter Miami later this year.
  • Portland Timbers made a huge splash by dishing out a reported $10 mil to Brazilian midfielder Evander of FC Midtjylland.
  • MLS continues to change the playoff format.
  • 18 teams now qualify for postseason play, up from 14 last year.
  • From what I understand there will be an 8vs9 seed play in game, then a best of three series, then back to single elimination. It’s too confusing to try to explain it.

Enjoy the weekend of games!
