Here’s a thought I can’t shake:
Should the United States have more (3-4) youth national teams at every age group?
Now, I’m not claiming to have the answer — honestly, I’m throwing this out there because I’d love your take. But with the sheer number of talented young players in this country, it’s hard not to wonder if our current setup is really enough.
Think about it:
Out of the thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands even millions?) of kids playing serious soccer, how do we confidently say these 18 are the very best? I’m not saying they aren’t deserving — they absolutely are — but can we truly believe there aren’t 30, 40, maybe even 50 other players just as capable?
Bring back the ODP approach?
Would it help to have regional youth national teams? One for the East, West, South, and Midwest? It might give more kids a platform, reduce travel barriers, and broaden the talent pool. Maybe it even leads to better scouting and development long term.
Or maybe it’s overcomplicating the system. I don’t know — that’s why I’m asking.
What do you think?
Drop a comment or send in your feedback. I’d really love to hear from coaches, parents, players — anyone with a stake in the game.
Let’s talk about it.
